What has ‘empowered’ you to become a social worker?: Being a nurse for over 15 years empowered me to obtain my SSD in order to more holistically care for my residents.
As we celebrate Social Work Month, what message or advice would you like to share with the community about the importance of social work in long-term care?: Social workers in long-term care provide assistance to residents in many ways. We ensure their experience in the facility is therapeutic. We provide an ear for venting frustrations or expressing joyful feelings. We ensure the discharge process is smooth and that everything the resident may need to be successful at home is in place prior to discharge.
