Aquatic Therapy

Aquatic therapy uses the physical properties of water to assist in patient healing and exercising performance, largely through the buoyancy and natural resistance provided by the water. The buoyancy assists in reducing the force of stress placed on the joints. Our therapy team utilizes aquatic therapy to achieve better outcomes in residents with arthritis and bone fractures that are in the healing process, as less joint stress makes exercise easier and less painful.

Our therapy team uses aquatic therapy as an enhancement to treatment sessions. All of our therapy team members are trained and encouraged to utilize the pool for our residents daily. During a resident’s initial assessment, the evaluating therapist will determine if they are eligible for aquatic therapy.

    Aquatic therapy uses gentle resistance through the water’s viscosity to allow muscle strengthening without weights. It also uses hydrostatic pressure, which is the force fluid molecules place on the body when in water and exists even with no movement. It has been proven to decrease swelling, increase range of motion, and improve circulation.
