We are proud to highlight Jovetta Richardson, BSW , CDP, Memory Care Facilitator at Majestic Care of Connersville. Jovetta brings 26 years of experience in healthcare including experience as a CNA, QMA, and now in social services.
“In social work, you get to know residents personally. We know the things that matter to them, the things that are important to them. We help them through crisis and times when they are sad, especially with dementia.”
Jovetta found her passion for Memory Care through her grandfather. “My grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. He went from this man that I had known my whole life to someone that I didn’t even know. That sparked my interest in Alzheimer’s disease. And that’s where I really found my passion and wanted to be able to help people who were affected with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.”
Caring and helping comes naturally. Jovetta is dedicated to identifying residents’ needs and meeting those needs, wherever they are in their journey. During the pandemic, her department has exercised creativity in bringing joy to residents. She says, “Our team works together to make this the best experience for our residents as possible.”
What are the best parts of her day? Anytime a resident smiles of course!
“It’s when you do the small things and they get so happy. If I’m able to spend 20 minutes just talking to somebody and they’re so appreciative…It’s that discharge to home when people are super excited and they finally made it, you know, met their goals and they’re going home….It’s helping someone transition from the short-term to long-term and helping them to see this is not such a bad place to be.”
Jovetta, thank you for your outstanding leadership and commitment to our residents!
