At Majestic Care of Fairfield, we often say that the people we serve are at the heart of everything we do. And this week, that statement couldn’t be more true—or more meaningful—as we celebrated the 106th birthday of one of our most beloved residents, Lt. Hugh Davies.
Hugh isn’t just a resident. He’s a hero. A World War II veteran, a former POW, and one of the very first residents to move into Majestic Care of Fairfield Assisted Living more than two decades ago. And on June 27, surrounded by staff, his caregivers, and residents – who’ve become like family, Hugh was honored in a heartfelt celebration marking his incredible milestone.
Born in 1919 in Shandon, Ohio, Hugh has lived a life of courage, service, and quiet resilience. As a U.S. Air Force pilot, he flew the B-24 heavy bomber during WWII and was shot down in combat. He spent time as a prisoner of war and went on to serve our country for 24 years. But beyond his military achievements, Hugh is known for his calm presence, quick wit, and deep love for the Cincinnati Reds — a team he’s followed faithfully for more than a century.
The 106th birthday celebration was truly a reflection of Hugh: humble, kind, and full of heart. A special video tribute captured Hugh’s extraordinary journey and included reflections from care team members who’ve known him for years — some for over two decades. From Jessica, who cares for Hugh like family, to Dessie, who has served the Fairfield community for 32 years, each voice spoke to the deep connections that define care at Majestic.
Executive Director Brian Gibboney summed it up best:
“This milestone isn’t just about age — it’s about honoring a life lived with strength, sacrifice, and dignity. Hugh has been part of our Majestic Care family for over two decades. It’s truly an honor to care for him and to mark this incredible moment together.”
At Majestic Care, these are the moments that matter. Our commitment to compassionate, personalized care is never more evident than when we get to celebrate the remarkable lives of those we serve — people like Hugh.
To Hugh — thank you for your service, your stories, your spirit, and your Reds loyalty.
Happy 106th Birthday. You’ve more than earned your cake. And maybe a Reds win, too.
