Majestic Care is excited to highlight our outstanding Social Work team! Meet Ashley Scatena-Bond from Majestic Care of Jefferson Pointe!
Name: Ashley Scatena-Bond
Years of Experience: 10 years LTC
What has ‘empowered’ you to become a social worker?: Before becoming a SW, I helped children and adults better their lifestyles at the YMCA. Towards the end of my YMCA career, I fell in love with the geriatric population and how they continued to strive for greatness, no matter their age. I was asked to join a community where I would help change and fight for a population battling Parkinson’s disease, and I never looked back. So many that I serve, don’t have family that visit or call, and I get to do that daily. I get to walk along side of them, I get to be the voice of ones who no longer have a voice, and I have a strong passion for helping others. Every day is a different day, every day I get to love and care for someone new, and every day I am reminded WHY I started 10 years ago.
As we celebrate Social Work Month, what message or advice would you like to share with the community about the importance of social work in long-term care?: Advice I would give to the community; Visit or call as often as you can. Celebrate the small victories, send cards or flowers. They may not remember your name or remember you visited, but you’ll never get that time back when they are gone. Importance of a SW; we hold the weight of the world on our shoulders, but no matter what, we will continue to show up. We will continue to advocate and do what’s best for our residents and their families. We are a jack of all trades.
