What has ‘empowered’ you to become a social worker?: From childhood I’ve always wanted to help people and find ways to assist them with getting their needs met. I’m always empowered being in service to someone else.
As we celebrate Social Work Month, what message or advice would you like to share with the community about the importance of social work in long-term care?: Social Work is needed in long-term care, not just to complete the work that is due for residents, but to be with residents and provide them comfort in their transition into less independence. Each person is different, however retirement, loss of independence and residing in a nursing home is a life changing event. I am proud to say I come into MJC with a positive attitude to assist my residents in brightening their spirts and bring joy into what is now their “home”.
