Name: Quantrelle Brown

What has ‘empowered’ you to become a social worker?: What empowered me to become a social worker was a combination of personal experiences, a deep sense of empathy, and a desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by individuals and families in my community, whether it was poverty, discrimination, or inadequate access to essential services. These experiences instilled in me a strong conviction to advocate for social justice and equality.

As we celebrate Social Work Month, what message or advice would you like to share with the community about the importance of social work in long-term care?: Social work in long-term care is crucial for ensuring residents’ well-being and quality of life. Social workers offer emotional support, advocate for residents’ rights, and connect them with community resources. They also facilitate communication between residents, families, and care providers, helping to navigate complex systems and make informed decisions. Through their holistic approach and dedication to social justice, social workers play a vital role in promoting dignity, autonomy, and meaningful engagement for individuals in long-term care settings.
