Majestic Care is excited to highlight our outstanding Social Work team! Meet Teresa L. Betiku from Majestic Care of Middletown!

Name: Teresa L. Betiku, BSW, MBA/HRM, QMHS-M

Years of Experience: With over 28 years experiences as a social worker, I’ve worked this time in administration, supervision, resource development and planning, case management, 8 years of post-secondary education and employer onboarding & training, and 7 years of experience working in skilled nursing and intermediate care facilities with individuals that are geriatric, ID/DD and other cognitive impairments, & substance use and alcohol dependence.

What has ‘empowered’ you to become a social worker?: I saw so many families in the communities I’ve supported, not be educated about their reasonable human and inalienable rights in healthcare. My mother always told me that if I couldn’t find a way to help somebody make a way to educate them so that they may help themselves. I’m so glad that I became a social worker. It’s the hardest and best job I’ve ever had.

As we celebrate Social Work Month, what message or advice would you like to share with the community about the importance of social work in long-term care?: Social work in long-term care is not about numbers. Social Work is about people and their families; specifically. Everyone deserves a voice in how they are cared for and maintained in life until the end of that life.
